Meet our CEO, Shannon Johansen
I am a Cree Metis Woman originating from the Red River Settlement in Manitoba and part of treaty one territory and a humbled guest of treaty 7 lands. I am the daughter of Douglas Hill and late Geraldine. I am the oldest daughter of four and the proud wife to Cory Johansen. I have two beautiful daughters Katrina 25 years and a registered nurse, and Emily 22 years and a Journeyman hairdresser.
My Blackfoot name was lovingly gifted to me by Elder Ruth Scalplock from Siksika Nation and is one that encompasses who I am in service to the clients I have had the privilege of working with this past decade. I guide my personal and professional life by journeying through community and guiding my conduct with the wisdom to show humility, the courage to be honest, showing love and respect with bravery, and truth in knowing all these teachings, and embracing them as the guiding principles in my life.
My professional career has had many intersections that have led me to be the leader I am today and has been honored in receiving the Queens Platinum Jubilee Medal recognizing my leadership and work in Indigenous services.
The most rewarding work I have experience in, is serving at Highbanks Society over the last several years. Starting as a Family Support Worker I’ve helped to create the growth and programming strategies to serve our youth and children. I have my own experience of homelessness, twice in my lifetime, once in my youth, and again as an adult with my husband and children. I have had to learn to ask for help, accept my healing journey, and work hard to stop the intergenerational cycles my family has experienced. My healing journey allows me to serve vulnerable people empathetically and with an understanding that encourages them to take their own footsteps within their path.
